Season 2007-08

Manhattan Brass 2007-08 season!

Season 2007-08 includes performances and masterclasses across the USA. In the fall, MB will be performing in NYC at the 92nd St Y, performing live accompanyment to new choreography by David Capps, head of the dance department at Hunter College and set to the music of David Dzubay. Also in the fall, MB performs recitals in NYC, CT, NH, and MA. Spring brings more touring to the south and midwest and the release of MB's David Dzubay CD on Bridge Records in late June. 2008 concerts feature MB's new program "American Voices: The Music of Duke Ellington & Gil Evans". The sound of these maverick composer/arrangers are from two unique periods in American music, yet share distinct qualities that encompass groundbreaking ideals and musical communication. While Ellington's popular work is well known, MB will explore lesser-known works; gems of Duke's career, not often performed live. The collaborations and inspirations for Gil Evans' music run the gamut and include Miles Davis, classical Spanish composer Joaquin Rodrigo, George Gewshwin, and rock icon Jimi Hendrix. The MB brings a special interepretation of this music with Lew & Dave's first-hand experience in Gil and Duke's bands while both were still alive -- knowledge of this music from the source. Come check it out!

This recording is now available and can be purchased online by clicking here . Stay tuned for more CD releases on Bridge and ENJA Records in 2007 and into 2008, featuring the music of David Dzubay, Wynton Marsalis, Paquito D' Rivera, Leonard Bernstein and Daniel Schnyder! One of the recordings is a sequel to our CD "The Manhattan Project", featuring the music of New York composers, the other is the music of one of our favorites; David Dzubay! These two recordings will be available in season 2007-08. In the meantime, also check out MB's first CD, The Manhattan Project. The recording features music by Manhattan composers past and present-including pieces written for us by Kitty Brazelton and Semour Barab.
